Privacy Policy

ClipStash ("the Extension") is a browser extension that automatically saves your clipboard history for easy access and re-use. This privacy policy explains what data is collected and how it is used.

Data Collection

Data Stored Locally

The following data is stored in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) and never leaves your device:

Clipboard history — Text content you copy, along with timestamps and optional categories
Pinned clips — Clips you mark as favorites (Pro feature)
Text expansion shortcuts — Custom shortcut-to-text mappings (Pro feature)
License state — Whether a Pro license is active (boolean flag)
License key — Your Polar license key (if activated)
Activation ID — Your Polar activation identifier (if activated)

Anonymous Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

The Extension sends anonymous usage events via the GA4 Measurement Protocol:

extension_installed — sent once on first install
extension_updated — sent on extension update
clip_copied — sent when a clip is saved (event name only; no clipboard content is included)
clip_searched — sent when a search is performed (no search query is included)
clip_pinned — sent when a clip is pinned (no content included)
clip_deleted — sent when a clip is deleted (no content included)
history_cleared — sent when all history is cleared
weekly_active — sent once per week to measure active usage

      No clipboard content is ever transmitted. Analytics events contain only a randomly generated client ID, the event name, and the extension name. No personally identifiable information (PII) is included.
    

License Validation (Polar)

When a license key is entered, the Extension communicates with the Polar API (api.polar.sh) to:

Validate the license key status
Activate or deactivate the license

Only the license key and organization ID are sent. No clipboard data or personal information is transmitted.

Data NOT Collected

The Extension does not collect:

Clipboard content (text you copy is never sent externally)
Browsing history or visited URLs
Personal information (name, email, etc.)
Cookies or tracking identifiers
Screenshots or page content
Keystroke data or form inputs

Clipboard Access

The Extension uses the clipboardRead permission and content scripts to capture text when you perform a copy action (Ctrl+C / Cmd+C). This data is:

Stored entirely in chrome.storage.local on your device
Never transmitted to any external server
Accessible only to you through the Extension's Side Panel
Deletable at any time (individual clips or entire history)

Data Retention

Local storage data persists until you uninstall the Extension or clear browser data
Analytics events are retained according to Google Analytics' standard retention policy
License data is managed by Polar according to their privacy policy
